U.S. Air Force Master Sgt. Michael Durga, aircraft crew chief, 127th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron, services life support systems with liquid oxygen, or LOX, on an A-10C Thunderbolt II aircraft at Selfridge Air National Guard Base, April 11, 2024. Liquid oxygen provides the breathing oxygen for pilot flight masks. It is loaded as a liquid at 300-degrees below zero Fahrenheit to maintain its liquid state. Handling liquid oxygen requires specialty training, two pairs of protective gloves, approved face shield and a heavy apron. (U.S. Air National Guard photo by Tom Demerly)
