U.S. Air Force Staff Sgt. Justin Bates, 20th Operational Medical Readiness Squadron dental lab technician, cuts a night guard from its post at Shaw Air Force Base, S.C., March 14, 2024. After 3-D printing, sanitizing and curing the night guards, Bates cuts the dental appliance from its stabilizing posts and fits it to the patient’s cast. Night guards are prescribed to patients for a variety of treatments, including temporomandibular joint (TMJ) issues and severe teeth grinding and clenching, ensuring oral health problems are properly treated so service members are prepared to effectively carry out their assigned duties without medical limitations.
