Maj. Gen Diego Pauvet, Deputy Director of the office for the protection of defense culture and memory of the Italian Ministry of Defense, gives a speech during the inauguration memorial dedicated to the Rock of the Marne in Mignano Montelungo, Italy, March 26, 2024. Soldiers of the 7th, 15th, and 30th regiments, assigned to the 3rd Infantry Division, fought in 1943 at the Mignano Gap, in the attempt to open the way to Rome to liberate the city from Nazi-Fascism. The memorial commemorates the division’s point of maximum advance during the battle and honors those who made the ultimate sacrifices to eradicate tyranny. The 3rd Infantry Division’s mission in Europe is to engage in multinational training and exercises across the continent, working alongside NATO Allies and regional security partners to provide combat-credible forces to V Corps, America’s forward-deployed corps in Europe.
