U.S. Army Sgt. 1st Class Roshaundra M. Womack, the sexual assault response coordinator (SARC) and victim advocate for 201st Expeditionary Military Intelligence Brigade, shares her story at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington, Mar. 13, 2024.
Unsure of what she wanted to do after high school, Womack considered enlisting. Her family in the military suggested that she enlists as a “stepping stone” for her future career. Womack’s decision to stay in the military would be her choice, but at least new doors would be opened.
“16 years later, I never thought about getting out,” Womack said with a smile.
She may retire when her children are old enough to go to middle school.
“I feel like that is the perfect time for me to be there and support them through all the activities they will be part of,” says Womack.
For soldiers who are unsure about staying in the military, Womack suggests “dedication” and not to let the hard times take over.
“You’re going to have a lot of hard times, but I’m sure a lot of the good times outweigh the bad,” reassured Womack.
