George, a full-body, copper, thermal test manikin manufactured by General Electric for the U.S. Army Research Institute of Environmental Medicine in Natick, Massachusetts, is displayed in the “From the Collections of the National Museum of Health and Medicine” exhibit at the museum in Silver Spring, Maryland. George was made in the 1940s, refurbished in 1992, and upgraded with a blue bodysuit and sweating capability in 2004. The mannikin was used to evaluate field clothing in a variety of simulated extreme cold and hot weather conditions. [NMHM 2019.0002.02]
