SOUTH CHINA SEA (March 7, 2024) – Electronics Technician 3rd Class Cody A. Child, from Bowling Green, Ohio, analyzes the area of a simulated fire for hotspots with a Naval Firefighting Thermal Imager (NFTI) during a mass conflagration drill aboard the Independence-variant littoral combat ship USS Mobile (LCS 26) in the South China Sea, March 7. Damage control drills train crewmembers to respond quickly and confidently to various at-sea emergency scenarios. Mobile, part of Destroyer Squadron 7, is on a rotational deployment operating in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations to enhance interoperability with Allies and partners and serve as a ready-response force in support of a free and open Indo-Pacific region.
