U.S. Marine Corps Cpl. Michael Kindvall, a motor vehicle operator with II Marine Expeditionary Force (II MEF) Arrival and Assembly Operations Group (AAOG), completes the polar plunge to simulate falling through ice while crossing a frozen body of water alongside Norwegian soldiers and Instructors from Home Guard 12 (HV-12) during Exercise Northern Winter being conducted by the Norwegian Armed Forces, in Giskas, Norway, on March 4, 2024. Exercise Northern Winter is an annual cold weather training exercise for HV-12. II MEF Marines are deployed to Norway for exercise Nordic Response 24 and are also participating in exercise Northern Winter to practice cold weather survival skills, offensive and defensive operations in an arctic environment, and integration with a partner nation.
