A CH-47 Chinook lands during the Freedom Shield exercise at Camp Humphreys, South Korea on March 8, 2024. U.S. Army Soldiers from the Eighth Army Headquarters and Headquarters Battalion were transported to Camp Carroll in support of the Eighth Army’s training objectives during the exercise. Freedom Shield is an 11-day exercise during which South Korea and the United States train to reflect the Korea Theater of Operations, a combined, joint, multi-domain, and interagency operating environment. In support of the Armistice Agreement, Freedom Shield 24 underscores the enduring military partnership between the ROK and the U.S. It reinforces the role of the Alliance as the linchpin for regional peace and security, reaffirming the unwavering commitment of the United States to defend the Republic of Korea.
