U.S. Marines with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, and Japan Ground Self-Defense Force service members with 2nd Amphibious Rapid Deployment Regiment, participate in a subject matter expert exchange focused on chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear hazards and detection techniques, during Iron Fist 24, on Camp Ainoura, Sasebo, Japan, March 1, 2024. The CBRN SMEE provided both armed forces with an understanding of each other’s equipment in an operational environment. Iron Fist is an annual bilateral exercise designed to increase interoperability and strengthen the relationships between the U.S. Marine Corps, the U.S. Navy, the JGSDF, and the Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force.
