Coast Guard celebrates Black History Month, Women's History Month

Petty Officer 3rd Class Laila R. Robinson, a Coast Guard Sector Jacksonville Marine Science Technician, inspects oil discharge from a shrimp boat moored at a pier in Jacksonville, Florida, on Feb. 27, 2024. Robinson was sent to Charlevoix, Michigan after she graduated from Coast Guard boot camp in Cape May, New Jersey. At Station Charlevoix, she was 2 hours away from the Canadian border and quickly qualified on two different Coast Guard assets, the 45-foot Response Boat-Medium and 29-foot Response Boat-Small. During the 2-year wait for MST A-school, Robinson maintained qualifications as a watchstander in the communication room, boat crew member, law enforcement boarding team member and ice rescuer.
