    The United States Capitol building one day prior to the swearing-in ceremony of President Barack Obama to begin his second four-year term, Jan. 21, 2013. During an inauguration, the front of the Capitol is outfitted with a platform and a grand staircase. President Barack Obama was sworn in at the West Front of U.S. Capitol by John G. Roberts. President Obama was sworn in using a Lincoln Bible and a Bible that was owned my Martin Luther King Jr. The Lincoln Bible was first published in 1853. The United States Capitol is the meeting place of the United States Congress, the legislature of the federal government of the United States. The U.S. Capitol's dome is made of cast iron was designed by Thomas U. Walter and constructed from 1855-1866. Montgomery C. Meigs, a captain in the Army Corps of Engineers, was the principal superintendent of construction.
