Cadets in Sunburst Youth Academy’s Class 32 Wolfpack platoon perform an exhibition drill routine in which they scare off a big bad wolf during the academy’s family day, Nov. 4, 2023, at Joint Forces Training Base, Los Alamitos. It was the first time cadets were able to see their extended families since arriving to the academy grounds in July. Drill and ceremonies is a key aspect of the cadet program as it helps instill discipline and structure to the program while also creating opportunities for small unit leadership. Sunburst is a National Guard Youth Challenge Program site run in partnership between the California National Guard’s Task Force Torch youth and community programs directorate and the Orange County Department of Education.
