Construction on the new Airey Gate at Tyndall Air Force Base, Florida, is nearly 80 percent complete. This main entry control point for the base will be more secure and resilient than previous gates with enhanced force protection characteristics, an overwatch tower to give Defenders more space and time to identify and respond to threats. It is one of three new entry control points under construction at the base designed to meet Florida’s strictest construction standards. The gates will be elevated to avoid storm surge flooding and designed to withstand Category 5 hurricane-force winds. Construction on the Airey Gate is expected to be complete in 2024.
