Construction on the new Airey Gate at Tyndall Air Force Base, Florida, is nearly 80 percent complete. This main entry control point for the base will be more secure and resilient than previous gates. Enhanced force protection characteristics such as a serpentine road pattern to the gatehouse, and an overwatch tower will give Defenders more space and time to identify and respond to threats. The Airey Gate entrance is one of three new entry control points under construction at the base designed to meet Florida’s strictest construction standards. The gates will be elevated to avoid storm surge flooding and designed to withstand Category 5 hurricane-force winds. Construction is expected to be complete in 2024.
