YOKOSUKA, Japan (Dec. 12, 2023) Capt. Les Sobol, Commander, Fleet Activities Yokosuka (CFAY) shakes hands with Assistant Commissioner Yoshiaki Hase, chief of the Yokosuka Police Station in which participants, including CFAY Sailors, CFAY safety department members, the Yokosuka Police Station and the other relevant Yokosuka safety organizations, hand out Japanese winter radish roots, daikons, to pedestrians at Yokosuka Chuo Station. Daikon is not only the local specialty produce but puns with the Japanese word “daikonzetsu,” meaning rooting out (of drunken driving). For more than 75 years, CFAY has provided, maintained, and operated base facilities and services in support of the U.S. 7th Fleet’s forward deployed naval forces, tenant commands, and thousands of military and civilian personnel and their families.
