ANSBACH, Germany (December 3, 2023) - The mayor of the City of Herrieden, Dorina Jechnerer, spoke on the occasion of the 35 years of partnership and friendship between U.S. Army Garrison Ansbach and her community at the city's castle. Jechnerer mentioned in her speech Theokar Gläßer, a citizen of the city of Herrieden, and his first encounter and the initial start of the city's friendship with the Americans in April 1945. As a schoolboy, Gläßer found a German weapon and had played with it with his friends until an American Soldier asked them to hand over the gun with the words: "The war is over. Go home, boys".
