Bounthavy Sengphachanh, Deputy Director General, Europe-America Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, learns about wet screening from U.S. Air Force Master Sgt. Molly Somsy Rosales, a thort term individual augmentee (STIA) Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) linguist, during a tour to a site of a DPAA recovery operation in the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Nov. 10, 2023. During the tour, the visiting personnel learned about recovery mission operations such as digging, screening and life support evidence review. Since 1985, the United States and Lao governments have worked together to find and recover unaccounted-for personnel. There are currently 1,578 missing and unaccounted-for Americans from the Vietnam War, of which 288 are believed to be in Laos.
