Armed Forces of Liberia Pvt. Kolype Saiyon troubleshoots a facilities generator while Operation Onward Liberty mentor Chief Warrant Officer David Keske looks on during a maintenance course provided by OOL mentors at Edward Binyah Kesselly Military Barracks Jan. 9. Saiyon was one of 31 AFL soldiers who took part in the week-long generator maintenance course led by Michigan Army National Guard trainers from the 177th Regional Training Institute. Course instructors and OOL mentors provided AFL soldiers with basic generator troubleshooting knowledge and reinforced the importance of maintenance in extending equipment and vehicle life. Onward Liberty is a U.S. Marine Corps Forces Africa-led operation comprised of joint U.S. service members who mentor and advise the Armed Forces of Liberia in order to develop a national military that is responsible, operationally capable, and respectful of civilian authority and the rule of law.
