SASEBO, Japan (October 24, 2023) Rear Admiral James Downey, Special Assistant to the Assistant Secretary of the Navy (Research, Development, and Acquisition), greets Captain Patrick German, the forward-deployed amphibious transport dock ship USS New Orleans’ (LPD 18) commanding officer, during a scheduled visit. New Orleans, part of the America Amphibious Ready Group, along with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, is underway conducting routine operations in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations. U.S. 7th Fleet is the U.S. Navy’s largest forward-deployed numbered fleet, and routinely interacts and operates with allies and partners in preserving a free and open Indo-Pacific region.
