U.S. Marines with Marine Wing Support Squadron (MWSS) 171, Marine Aircraft Group 12, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing, refuel an MV-22 Osprey tiltrotor aircraft with Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron (VMM) 265, MAG-36, 1st MAW, as part of the field training exercise portion of Resolute Dragon 23 on Ie Shima, Okinawa, Japan, Oct. 12, 2023. Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron (MALS) 12 and MWSS-171, both with MAG-12, 1st MAW, operated a forward arming and refueling point during RD 23 to hone their distributed operation capabilities in a realistic and expeditionary environment. RD 23 is an annual bilateral exercise in Japan that strengthens the command, control, and multi-domain maneuver capabilities of Marines in III Marine Expeditionary Force and allied Japan Self-Defense Force personnel.
