Col. Chad Bridges, Commander of the 39th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, awards the 39th IBCTs Bowie knife to four of its leaders. Recipients: Major Timothy Nelson, Major Christopher Schmidt, Major Curtis Gray, and Sergeant Major Jerry Hankins. The Bowie knife is a symbol of the Bowie brigade that is worn by recipients within the 39th IBCT once they make the rank of Sergeant Major, Chief Warrant Officer 3, or Major. Additionally, the Bowie knife is displayed on the unit patch and the knife is worn ceremonially.
