Maj. Gen. Paul D. Rogers, the Adjutant General and Director of the Michigan Department of Military and Veterans Affairs, speaks at a groundbreaking ceremony for a new 5th Generation aircraft hangar at Alpena Combat Readiness Training Center (CTRC), Mich. on Oct 6, 2023.
The new hangar will replace aging aircraft facilities dating to the 1950s and provide secure space to support 5th Generation Fighters. The new $26 million, federally funded construction project will provide a 24,000 square foot maintenance facility able to accommodate DoD aircraft such as F-35s, F-15 EXs, and KC-46s. Officials believe the hangar's positioning and capabilities at the Alpena CRTC, one of only four in the Air National Guard, will deliver training support well into the 21st century.
