It was a very Merry Christmas or Mele Kalikmaka, as they say in Hawaii, for the 45th Sustainment Brigade as they transferred authority of all logistical operations in Kandahar, Afghanistan to the 3rd Sustainment Brigade, Fort Stewart, Ga., on Christmas Eve, Dec. 24, 2012. Even though some of the 45th Sustainment’s ‘Lightning Support’ soldiers could aren’t back on Schofield Barracks, Hawaii with their families on Christmas day, they have taken their final step toward redeploying home after casing their colors during the ceremony, signifying mission complete and a job well done. Col. Jeffrey Drushal, brigade commander for the 45th Sustainment BDE, reflected on the accomplishments of his unit and highlighted their most important accomplishments, working side-by-side with one another and building new friendships that will last a lifetime.
“Ten years from now, nobody is going to remember the number of convoys you have driven. Nobody is going to remember the supplies you [have driven]; but they will remember the mentorship, the friendships; the inclusiveness in the community that you generated,” said Drushal. “I have no doubt that as we transfer authority to the Providers [3rd Sustainment BDE], our body of work will continue honorably,“ he said.
