Nichols, of Belmont, Miss., of the Fulton-based Troop C, both units of the 1st Squadron, 98th Cavalry Regiment, 155th Armored Brigade Combat Team, Mississippi Army National Guard, navigate to find their next check point as part of a three-hour land navigation course during the 155 BCT's Best Warrior competition, recently held at Camp McCain, Miss. Over a three-day period, 32 soldiers from throughout the MSARNG were challenged by an Army physical fitness test, land navigation course, combatives (hand-to-hand combat), six-mile road march with 30-pound rucksack, individual weapon qualification, confidence course, written test, and an interview panel composed of brigade command sergeants major. First place and runner-up winners in the Soldier of the Year and Non-Commissioned Officer of the year categories from each major command will compete in the Mississippi Army National Guard's Best Warrior Competition to be held Feb. 18-22, 2013, at the Camp McCain Training Site.
