U.S. Forest Service David Lafon, an Assistant Modular Airborne Fire Fighting System (MAFFS) liaison officer assigned to the Klamath Falls Airtanker Base, and Isreal Lopez, a MAFFS mechanic assigned to the United Aeronautical Service, observe a MAFFS equipped C-130H assigned to the 153rd Airlift Wing depart Klamath Falls Air Tanker Base, Oregon, Aug. 12, 2023. U.S. Air Force C-130H MAFFS-equipped aircraft, as requested by the National Interagency Fire Center and approved by the Secretary of Defense, provide unique firefighting capabilities to support wildfire suppression efforts against the Wiley, Jerry Ridge, and Ben Harrison Fires.
