SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico, Jan.25, 2019 - Governor of Puerto Rico, Ricardo Roselló Nevárez, and Director of the Commonwealth's Central Office of Recovery and Reconstruction, Omar Marrero, visited the Joint Recovery Office in Puerto Rico. They were accompanied by FEMA's Federal Coordinating Officer, Mike Byrne.
In Puerto Rico, FEMA’s workforce continue its commitment to support the long-term recovery efforts. Currently, more than 2,500 FEMA employees are working and receiving pay despite the lapse in appropriations, including 1,114 locally hired staff. FEMA has maintained permanent presence in the Caribbean since 1989, and will continue to support disaster survivors and the Puerto Rico Government in its recovery efforts. The hurricane Maria recovery operation is financed with the Disaster Relief Fund (DRF) to which the U.S Congress has appropriated funding for emergencies and major disasters declared by the President. Under these declarations FEMA continues to provide assistance to impacted survivors, states and territories for FEMA’s Individual Assistance, Public Assistance and Mitigation Programs.FEMA/Eduardo Martinez
