U.S. Soldiers with 1st Battalion, 9th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division, supporting 4th Infantry Division; British soldiers with the U.K. Royal Lancers, Aliwal Troop; Croatian soldiers with the 11th Croatian Contingent; Romanian soldiers with the Romanian Air Defense; and Polish soldiers with the 15th Mechanized Brigade, all supporting NATO’s enhanced Forward Presence Battle Group Poland, pay their respects to those who perished during the Warsaw Uprising, at a memorial ceremony in Warsaw, Poland, Aug. 1. The Warsaw Uprising was an insurrection during World War II that resulted in thousands of Polish deaths as underground resistance forces fought against the German army and future Soviet occupation. Members of Task Force Ivy and NATO allies from the enhanced Forward Presence Battle Group Poland visited Warsaw to learn about the nation’s history over the last 400 years, including the Warsaw Uprising. The 4th Inf. Div.'s mission in Europe is to engage in multinational training and exercises across the continent, working alongside NATO allies and regional security partners to provide combat-credible forces to V Corps, America’s forward-deployed corps in Europe.
