Sapper Soldiers from 21st Brigade Engineer Battalion, 3rd Brigade Combat Team "Rakkasans," 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), move toward their pickup zone (PZ) before an aerial movement during the kickoff of OLE III, Aug. 1, 2023, at Fort Campbell, Ky. Once they were on ground at the landing zone (LZ), the Sapper platoons hit the ground running, clearing obstacles and completing a 1.2 km movement before starting patrol base operations for the night. Operation Lethal Eagle III is a pre-planned training exercised to build Soldier and unit lethality within the world's premiere air assault division. The exercise is a 21-day training event in dispersed locations across Tennessee and Kentucky designed to build and sustain readiness across multiple warfighting functions.
