University of Illinois Chicago (UIC)-CRIM, a partner of the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency, investigated the sites of several possible World War II era aircraft crashes in January and February 2023 in an effort to recover service members still missing from the crashes.
In the photo, George Luis K. Fakat Jr., Indigenous Representative, Bontoc, Mountain Province (posing with the traditional Igorot headhunting axe) at his farm along the Balitian Creek near Bontoc. Mr. Fakat helped salvage a WWII aircraft in his youth and guided the UIC investigation team to a potential aircraft crash site.
