CANBERRA, AUSTRALIA (July 23, 2023) Capt. Marc Crawford, commodore of Littoral Combat Ship Squadron One, and The Honorable Caroline Kennedy, U.S. ambassador to Australia, reenlist seven Sailors from the Independence-variant littoral combat ship USS Canberra (LCS 30) at the Australian War Memorial in Canberra, Australia, July 23. Freedom of Entry is an honor granted to military units that bestows the right to parade through the city streets on ceremonial occasions and be present at official functions and ceremonies. In accordance with military law and tradition, this gives the unit the right to march through the streets with swords drawn, bayonets fixed, drums beating, bands playing, and ensign flying.
