U.S. Marines with the Maritime Special Purpose Force, 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit (Special Operations Capable) (MEU(SOC)), set security during fast-roping aboard the Wasp-class Amphibious Assault Ship USS Bataan (LHD 5), Atlantic Ocean, Jul. 18, 2023. Fast-roping is a tactical maneuver used to quickly insert troops into austere terrain in which a helicopter may not be able to land. The 26th MEU(SOC), embarked with the Bataan Amphibious Ready Group is on a scheduled deployment as the Nation’s Immediate Response Force within the Sixth and Fifth fleets areas of responsibility.
