Cpl. Josh Hood, a vehicle commander with Personnel Security Detachment, Regimental Combat Team 1, from Wakefield, Kan., has his radio equipment attached to his vest as do the other vehicle commanders with the PSD convoy. Each vehicle has a vehicle commander who keeps in contact with each other, the convoy commander, and any units in the surrounding area. Constant communication is vital to the success of a mission. It ensures that each group of Marines are on the same page and aware of the situation at all times. As lead vehicle commander, he and his driver are also responsible for navigation and spotting any improvised explosive devices that may be placed in the road.
