African Lion joint forces gather around prior to the tips off of the first African Lion “Olympic” games, on Inezgane Airfield, June 10, 2023 during African Lion 23. The mixed forces competition is a first-time event at African Lion 2023, and has teams composed of individuals from different nations competing in basketball, soccer and track and field events over the course of three days. Eighteen nations and approximately 8,000 personnel will participate in AL23, U.S. Africa Command's largest annual combined, joint exercise that will take place in Ghana, Morocco, Senegal and Tunisia from May 13-June 18, 2023.
