U.S. Army paratroopers with the 173rd Airborne Brigade salute the American and French flags during a ceremony at Oise-Aisne American Ceremony, France, honoring the found remains of an American WWI Soldier, June 7, 2023.
The remains of an unknown World War I U.S. Soldier were discovered in February 2022, in a village cemetery in France, in an area that saw heavy fighting by American troops in the war. The Soldier’s identity remains a mystery.
The 173rd Airborne Brigade is the U.S. Army's Contingency Response Force in Europe, providing rapidly deployable forces to the United States European, African, and Central Command areas of responsibility. Forward deployed across Italy and Germany, the brigade routinely trains alongside NATO allies and partners to build partnerships and strengthen the alliance.
