South Carolina Army National Guard Soldiers assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 59th Aviation Troop Command (ATC), conduct a medical evacuation (MEDEVAC) training mission in conjunction with the Prisma Health Emergency Department (ED), at multiple locations in upstate South Carolina, May 10 and 11, 2023. The exercise included MEDEVAC and aeromedical intensive care scenarios, with sorties originating from the South Carolina National Guard Army Aviation Support Facility (Loc. 2) at Donaldson Center, Greenville, South Carolina. The scenarios continued with multiple airlifts of notional patients from the Lake Keowee Fire Department, in route stabilization and care, and landing-patient handoff to the Prisma Health ED, Greenville Memorial Hospital. The intent of the exercise was to train-to proficiency various aspects of aeromedical intensive care, MEDEVAC, and coordination of efforts between military and civilian emergency response agencies. The 2-59th ATC component of the exercise included Soldiers and equipment from Detachment 2, Company C “Dustoff,” 2-238th Aviation Regiment, General Support Aviation Battalion (GSAB), as well as elements of the 1-111th Aviation Regiment, General Support Aviation Battalion (GSAB), all flying on UH-60L Black Hawk helicopters.
