A soldier from 401st Quartermaster Detachment of Lock Haven, Pa., monitors a 600 gallon per minute pump Nov. 11 that is removing water from a residential area and out to sea in Breezy Point, N.Y. The hoses, stretched hundreds of meters down the beach, are channeling water out of areas most effected as a result of Hurricane Sandy. The 401st, 410th and 431st Quartermaster Detachment are deployed to the area under the National Defense Authorization Act 2012 and are in direct support of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, state and local officials.
