Meet First Lieutenant Mackenzie Kearns is a mobility Officer for the 260th movement control team. Her unit is involved in accounting for all of the equipment as it transits across the theater. Today, Kearns and her team assisted with equipment that was unloaded off of the ARC Integrity by accounting it, recording its location, or its destination, and then staging it for onward movement.
Kearns says, “All the equipment that's coming off the ARC Integrity will be transported onward to participate in Saber Guardian 23, the third exercise in Defender 23.” When asked what was one thing she would take from her experiences Kearns stated, “It’s a team of teams, especially with large exercises like this, it takes so many different people to make this all come together. It's awesome to get to integrate with all these other teams. It's really incredible to get to work with people from all over the Army all over Europe.”
DEFENDER 23 is a U.S. Army Europe and Africa led exercise focused on the strategic deployment of continental United States-based forces, employment of Army Prepositioned Stocks, and interoperability with Allies and partners. Taking place from 22 April to 23 June, DEFENDER 23 demonstrates USAREUR-AF’s ability to aggregate U.S.-based combat power quickly in Eastern Europe, increase lethality of the NATO Alliance through long-distance fires, build unit readiness in a complex joint, multi-national environment, and leverage host nation capabilities to increase USAREUR-AF’s operational reach. DEFENDER 23 includes more than 7,000 U.S. and 17,000 multi-national service members from more than 20 nations who will participate including, but not limited to: Estonia, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Latvia, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Spain, United Kingdom and the United States.
