Rear Adm. John Dougherty IV, Commander of the Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division (NAWCAD) and Chief Engineer of Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) visited the Additive Manufacturing facility at NAWCAD Lakehurst on May 10. The facility serves several purposes for the fleet, including 3D printing, non-destructive testing and the ability to make prototypes of equipment used by the Fleet. NAVAIR is exploring the use of AM to create aviation parts and tools that would not be possible through traditional manufacturing techniques, and to sustain parts that are no longer available in the supply system.
