Dominick Holloway, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, construction representative, monitors construction of Red River Structure south of Fargo, North Dakota/Moorhead, Minnesota, May 5. The Corps of Engineers’ contractor, Ames Construction, began placing concrete May 5. This is one of the largest concrete placements ever in the region and included the placement of 2,300 cubic yards of concrete for the 10-foot-thick structure slab or the equivalent of more than 10 miles of sidewalks. The Red River Structure is a major component of the Fargo-Moorhead Metropolitan Flood Risk Management Project. Once complete, the project will provide flood risk management for nearly 260,000 people and 70 square miles of infrastructure in the communities of Fargo, Moorhead, West Fargo, Horace, and Harwood and will save the nation millions of dollars annually in flood fighting and potential flood damages in these communities.
