U.S. Marines with maritime raid force, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, swim 100-meters during a water competency evaluation on Camp Hansen, Okinawa, Japan, May 5, 2023. The Marines were tested on their water survival skills and their proficiency executing drills in personal protective equipment as part of their visit, board, search, and seizure training. The 31st MEU, the Marine Corps’ only continuously forward-deployed MEU, provides a flexible and lethal force ready to perform a wide range of military operations as the premier crisis response force in the Indo-Pacific region.
