Werner Salinger, Holocaust survivor and U.S. Air Force veteran, talks to Airmen at a Days of Remembrance event at Luke Air Force Base, Arizona, April 18, 2023. Salinger was born in 1932 in Berlin, and survived the Night of Broken Glass, a pogrom on German Jews on Nov. 9, 1938. After immigrating to New York in 1939, Salinger enlisted in the U.S. Air Force at the age of 19 in 1952.
