U.S. Marine Corps Cpl. Austin Black, a bulk fuel specialist from 7th Engineer Support Battalion assigned to Marine Corps Engineer Detachment – Palau, cuts a log during a preservation project at White Beach in Peleliu, Republic of Palau, April 10, 2023. The purpose of the project is to preserve the historical value of White Beach, in honor of Marines and Sailors of 1st Marine Division who landed there and gave their lives during WWII. During this rotational deployment, Navy Seabees and Marine Corps engineers undertake preparation for the southern access road and the expansion of the airfield, which benefit local populations in the Indo-Pacific region and enhance the United States’ ability to render support and aid in response to disasters or other crises.
