U.S. Marine Corps Staff Sgt. Jose Antunez, explosive ordnance disposal team leader from 7th Engineer Support Battalion assigned to Marine Corps Engineer Detachment – Palau, uncovers possible unexploded ordnance (UXO) in preparation for future airfield construction at Peleliu, Republic of Palau, April 5, 2023. UXO clearance takes place prior to any construction projects to ensure the safety of the site. During this rotational deployment, Navy Seabees and Marine Corps engineers undertake infrastructure projects which benefit local populations in the Indo-Pacific region and enhance the United States’ ability to render support and aid in response to disasters or other crises.
