U.S. Marine Corps Staff Sgt. Matthew Terrell, the station commander for Recruiting Sub-Station Fairfield, helps future Marine Tyler Nelson participate in the “Dizzy Izzy” competition of the annual Battle of the Bay pool function in Hayward, California on April 8, 2023. The annual pool function is an opportunity for future Marines to build camaraderie, strengthen their commitment to the Marine Corps, and prepare for recruit training by competing in athletic competitions and receiving military related periods of instruction.
