NAVAL STATION ROTA, Spain (March 23, 2023) Boatswain's Mate 2nd Class Matthew Phlegar, assigned to the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Roosevelt (DDG 80), forward deployed to Naval Station (NAVSTA) Rota, Spain, walks across the brow after participating in a shipboard firefighting exercise March 23, 2023. As the "Gateway to the Mediterranean,” NAVSTA Rota provides U.S, NATO and allied forces a strategic hub for operations in Europe, Africa and the Middle East.
