Col. Philip J. Zimmerman, commanding officer of Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, speaks with local elected officials at the Marine Transport Squadron 1 hangar aboard Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point Oct. 17. Zimmerman and the seven officials, all members of the Civilian Military Community Council, boarded one of VMR-1’s HH-46E “Pedro” Sea Knight helicopters for a flight to view some of the air station’s outlying training grounds. “They were exposed to more about Marine aviation in a four-hour period than what two years of meetings could get across,” said Zimmerman. “Taking them out to the ranges enabled them to learn so much.”
