Air Force Col. (Dr.) Heather Yun, Deputy Commander for Medical Services, demonstrates the proper wear of a mask for preventing the spread of germs at Brooke Army Medical Center, Fort Sam Houston, Texas, Feb. 28, 2023. All San Antonio military medical facilities, to include the hospitals and outlying clinics, follow the Defense Health Agency Guidance on COVID-19 for Military Treatment Facilities policy, which requires consideration of both the COVID-19 Community Level rate and the Community Transmission rate when determining local mask requirements. COVID-19 Community Levels are mostly driven by hospitalization numbers, and Community Transmission rates are primarily based on case rates and percentage of positivity. The current policy states that face coverings are required in common areas such as hallways and elevators as well as patient care settings. Masks are not required in administrative areas where patients are not present. (DoD photo by Jason W. Edwards)
