This Fort Riley Friday we feature building 226, the Veterinary Services building. Built in 1905, it served (and still serves) as an animal treatment facility (including the Cavalry horses) and also a food inspection facility. Items were inspected in bldg. 226 then moved via an underground conveyor to bldg. 229 when it served as the Commissary. The horse standing in front of bldg. 226 in the upper right photo is Chief, the last living Cavalry horse. Chief died in 1968.
