A self-propelled howitzer crew assigned to Bravo Battery, 4th Battalion, 1st Field Artillery Regiment, fires high-explosive rounds from an M109A6 Paladin during Field Artillery Certification at Dona Anna Range Complex, Fort Bliss, Texas, January 13, 2023. The 4-1 FA conducted fire support Table XV as part of their training certification process in preparation for their upcoming National Training Center rotation.
“Fires extend the maneuver commander's ability to attrit the enemy before his maneuver commanders reach contact with the enemy,” said Maj. Billy Atwood Battalion Operations Officer 4th Battalion, 1st Field Artillery Regiment. “By using artillery, we can suppress, neutralize or preferably destroy the enemy before they make contact with our maneuver friends within our brigade and organizations.”
Fire support Table XV tests a unit’s ability to provide accurate and precise artillery support while mirroring the stress of real-world combat scenarios. Conducting certification lets commanders assess the proficiency and readiness of their units.
