PACIFIC OCEAN (Dec. 12, 2022) – A U.S. Marine with Battalion Landing Team 2/4, 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit, fires an M27 designated marksman rifle during a battle-sight zero live-fire range aboard amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8), Dec. 12. Maintaining weapon accuracy and shooter proficiency is critical to mission readiness as a crisis response unit. The 13th MEU is embarked with the Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group, comprised of the Makin Island and amphibious transport dock ships USS Anchorage (LPD 23) and USS John P. Murtha (LPD 26), and operating in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations to enhance interoperability with Allies and partners and serve as a ready-response force to defend peace and maintain stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
